About LDTG |
|
The idea to build the LDTG website was originally born within the group of May 2006 Dubai Tour Guide Award (DTGA) participants. DTGA program is conducted by Dubai Department of Tourism and Marketing Commerce (DTCM) together with the Training Solution. It is aimed to qualify all the guides on the field of tourism in Dubai. After the training DTCM provides the participants with the certificate and the license that allows the Tour Guide to work in the field. They are organizing the yearly updates for all Licensed Tour Guides and at the same giving us a change to renew our license. Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) is organizing the similar training for those who wants to obtain their license and conduct the tours in Abu Dhabi. The LDTG site is the online storage of information that both; tour guides as well as visitors can access when needed regardless where they are at that moment. It aims to be forever growing knowledge base, a place to stop when searching past history of UAE or a place to learn about the culture of the area around the Arabian Gulf. There is a separate section for each of 7 Emirates and you can get even deeper in details when following the links given. The Links section will take you directly to the original site which can add greatly to the value of information. Although the site is concentrating mainly to tell about two of the emirates; Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the capital city of UAE you will find even the neighboring countries mentioned in the Notes section, especially when commenting the books and other sources of information. Without the guidance of the past in the Gulf it would be impossible to understand the bigger picture of the present day in UAE. The collected information on the site helps us all to understand the amazing story of Dubai; How the small fishing village on the “Pirate coast” grew to be one of the most developed “Trucial States”, which is today known as the modern cosmopolitan city—the city where future does not hold limits! Information on the site—either current or past—has been gathered from many different sources; books and articles that I have read, studies I have taken on and it is definitely colored by experience gained while living and working in the Arabian Gulf area since 1979. |

INTRODUCTION of UAE The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is considered the second richest Arab country, after Qatar, on a per capita basis. According to World Bank figures for 2005, the UAE’s Gross National Income (GNI) per capita was US$ 24,680.
The country has just under 10% of the world’s proven oil reserves (most within the Abu Dhabi emirate) and the fourth largest natural gas reserves. The record fuel prices before recession helped the UAE’ GDP grow at around 8% a year. GDP was estimated at AED 485 billion for 2005; 29% of this was from Dubai.
The UAE’s wealth is not solely reliant on oil revenue though, and in 2005 oil accounted for just 35.7% of overall GDP. Trade, manufacturing, tourism and construction are playing in increasingly important part in the national economy.
The country’s main export partners are Saudi Arabia, Iran, Japan, India, Singapore, South Korea and Oman. The main import partners are Japan, USA, Italy, Germany and South Korea. Source—Explorer; The Complete Residence Guide, Dubai. |

CULTURAL /Traditional Meal / Goat’s tongue: Since lamb and goat are normally served whole, the tongue of either form is a normal part of the traditional meal. It is said that, as forfeit, those who consume the goat’s tongue must, in return, sing a song. Source— Don’t they know it’s Friday by Jeremy Williams |
